ADHD Medication

ADHD can be treated with stimulant or nonstimulant medicines. Each child's needs are unique, so work with the doctor to find out if medicine may be right for your child. Ask lots of questions and make sure you are comfortable with the medicine that is recommended. It may also be helpful to ask about the possible risks and benefits of different types of ADHD medicines.

INTUNIV is not a stimulant

  • It is not a controlled substance
  • There is no known risk of abuse or dependence
  • It can be easily refilled over the phone, at the pharmacy, or by mail order
  • It may take several weeks to see improvement in your child's ADHD symptoms
  • The doctor may check your child's blood pressure and heart rate while he or she is taking INTUNIV

Stimulants

Stimulants, such as amphetamines or methylphenidates, are a type of treatment option for ADHD.

Understanding treatment choices

It is important to be involved in the selection of your child's ADHD medicine. So be ready to work with your child's doctor. Here are some questions you may want to ask about any medicine the doctor may prescribe.

  • What type of medicine is it?
  • How many times a day will my child need to take it?
  • How quickly can I expect to see results?
  • What are possible side effects?
  • Are there any risks of becoming dependent on the medicine?
  • How do I refill the prescription?
